What is the secret to living a happy and meaningful life? This is one of those basic questions that lie at the core of each of our hearts. Philosophers have philosophized about it, self-help gurus have written numerable books on how to attain it, and countless others have become engulfed in today’s fast paced life, running here and there, purchasing this and that, advancing from one achievement to another, all in order to grasp the ever illusive ‘good life.’ But, is it possible that the answer to what we seek is right in front of us? The parable of the fishes and water tells the whole story:
Fishes, asking to know what water was, went to a wise fish. He told them that it was all around them, yet they still thought that they were thirsty.
Secular wisdom and material things are unable to bring the soul peace. We’re surrounded by God, but still we search for meaning. Too much busyness often masks a deeper problem—our alienation from God. All we need to do is heed the words of God—“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”(Matt. 6:33). God is good, merciful and easy to be entreated, so Be still, and know that He is God (Ps 46:10).
